Privacy Policy
Last updated · August 12, 2026
Linkerly ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), developed by Amurot, is a calm, minimal, local-first bookmark management application for Android. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy, safeguarding your personal data, and maintaining complete transparency.
This Privacy Policy explains how Linkerly collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our application. It also outlines your data protection rights under applicable global privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and the Google Play Developer Policy.
1. Local-First Data Philosophy & Ownership
Linkerly is engineered on a local-first architecture. Your bookmark data—including saved URLs, titles, web descriptions, favicons, thumbnails, custom tags, folders, and personal preferences—is stored exclusively on your Android device in a local private database.
- No Central Servers: We do not operate central servers to store, monitor, or sync your saved bookmarks.
- No Data Commercialization: We do not sell, rent, trade, lease, or monetize your saved links, search queries, or browsing habits to advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties.
- Complete User Ownership: You retain 100% ownership and control over all content saved within the App.
2. Information Handled Exclusively On Your Device
A. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
- Bookmarks & Metadata: Saved web addresses (URLs), webpage titles, descriptions, categories, tags, creation timestamps, and folder associations.
- App Preferences: Selected color themes, list view layouts, and custom sorting preferences.
- Local Search History: Search queries entered within the App, stored strictly locally on your device and clearable at any time via Settings.
No External Server Collection: We do not collect, transmit, upload, or store your saved bookmarks, URLs, webpage metadata, search history, or personal data to any central servers, remote databases, or external systems managed by Amurot or any third parties. All your information remains 100% strictly local to your device.
B. Biometric Authentication Data
Linkerly features a "Hidden Bookmarks" section protected by device biometric authentication (fingerprint or facial recognition).
- Biometric verification is processed entirely on-device by Android's native hardware-backed
BiometricPromptframework. - Linkerly never accesses, reads, collects, or stores your raw biometric templates or credentials.
C. Clipboard Access
To enable quick link saving, Linkerly includes features that inspect your device clipboard (such as Home Screen Widgets and quick-save prompts).
- Clipboard inspection takes place strictly on your local device.
- Linkerly inspects copied text solely to identify valid web links (
http://orhttps://) for user-initiated saving. - Clipboard contents are never logged, saved without your consent, or transmitted off your device.
3. Third-Party Services & Network Interactions
Linkerly requires network connectivity exclusively for user-initiated web metadata extraction, optional cloud backups, and anonymized app stability diagnostics.
A. Website Metadata Extraction (Direct HTTP/HTTPS Requests)
When you add or refetch a bookmark, Linkerly fetches website metadata (webpage title, description, favicon, and hero thumbnail) directly from the target web server using standard open-source libraries (Jsoup and Coil).
- Direct Connection: These HTTP/HTTPS requests are sent directly from your device to the target website, exactly as if you opened the page in a web browser.
- No Proxying: We do not route your requests through proprietary proxy servers.
B. Anonymized Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)
To maintain application stability and diagnose technical crashes:
- Linkerly integrates Firebase Crashlytics, a diagnostic service provided by Google LLC.
- When an app crash occurs, Firebase Crashlytics automatically collects anonymized diagnostic logs, including:
- Technical crash stack traces
- Device model, manufacturer, and operating system version
- App state at the time of the crash
- No PII: Crash logs do not include your saved URLs, bookmark titles, personal notes, IP addresses, or any personally identifiable information (PII).
- For details on Google's privacy practices, please visit Google Privacy & Terms.
C. Optional Encrypted Cloud Backup & Google Drive API Disclosure
Linkerly offers an optional, user-initiated cloud backup feature ("Sync & Backup") using the Google Drive API.
- User Authorization: Cloud backup requires explicit authentication with your own Google Account via Google Sign-In.
- Scope Limitation (
drive.appdata): Linkerly requests access strictly to your private Google Drive Application Data folder (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata). Linkerly cannot view, modify, or access any other files in your Google Drive. - Client-Side Encryption: Backup files are encrypted on your device prior to upload using industry-standard AES-256 GCM encryption.
- Zero Server Access: Your encrypted backup file is transferred directly between your Android device and your personal Google Drive storage. Amurot has no access to your Google credentials, decryption keys, or backup files.
- Compliance with Google API Limited Use Policy: Linkerly's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Android App Permissions
Linkerly requests only the minimal system permissions necessary to deliver core features:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
android.permission.INTERNET | Required to fetch webpage metadata (titles, favicons) and send anonymized crash logs. |
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Required to verify network availability before attempting metadata fetches or sync. |
android.permission.USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT | Required to perform local biometric authentication for the Hidden Bookmarks folder. |
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Optional. Required on Android 13+ to display background task completion or reminder alerts. |
5. User Data Protection Rights (GDPR & CCPA Compliance)
Depending on your region, you possess specific legal rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of Access & Portability: You can export all your saved bookmarks, tags, folders, and metadata into a standard JSON file at any time via Profile -> Export Data.
- Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You can delete individual bookmarks or folders at any time. Clearing app data or uninstalling Linkerly permanently removes all local database records from your device.
- Right to Object / Opt-Out: Because we do not track, collect, or sell personal data, there is no personal data processing to opt out of.
- California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA): We do not "sell" or "share" consumer personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
6. Children's Privacy
Linkerly is a general utility bookmark management tool not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can take appropriate measures.
7. Data Retention & Security
- Data Retention: Your data persists locally on your device for as long as Linkerly remains installed, or until you manually clear or export/delete your data.
- Security Measures: Local sensitive data (such as Hidden Bookmarks) is protected behind Android OS biometric locks. Backup files use AES-256 GCM encryption.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new app features, legal requirements, or platform policies. Any changes will be posted within the app repository and app store listing with an updated "Effective Date". Continued use of the App following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
